As a member of Skyline’s Executive Committee reporting to the Executive Board, Laurie oversees strategic implementation across Skyline’s Legal, Privacy, Security & Risk, and Compliance teams. She oversees Skyline’s governance, legal, and regulatory framework, helping establish and execute legal and regulatory-based policies, procedures, and standards that mitigate risk and drive performance, growth, and profitability—while delivering exceptional value to Skyline’s customers, employees, and communities.

A critical member of Skyline’s senior leadership team, Laurie plays a key role in implementing, maintaining, and improving governance, regulatory, and compliance practices and leading executive-level meetings focused on strategic legal, risk management, and compliance priorities. She is responsible for cross-organizational decisions and overseeing large-scale initiatives, and she represents Skyline in an official capacity externally with stakeholders and industry partners. She employs a hands-on approach to leadership, prioritizing collaboration, accountability, and alignment of legal, governance, and compliance priorities to support the achievement of Skyline’s long-term goals.

As General Counsel, Laurie is responsible for all legal functions at Skyline, including oversight of contract negotiation and the legal aspects of all asset transactions, development projects, joint venture projects, and clean energy projects. She also provides leadership on corporate governance and training and provides guidance and advice respecting legal disputes.

Before joining Skyline in 2015, Laurie garnered nearly 20 years of experience across various facets of real estate law, including senior roles at Wal-Mart Canada Corp. within both its Legal and Real Estate units. Laurie is Chair of Volunteer Waterloo Region and serves as lead of its Governance Committee. She is also a Coach and Advisor for the Coach and Advisor Network for Lawyers and Paralegals (Law Society of Ontario) as well as a Peer Mentor for Counselwell, a community and mentorship program for in-house lawyers.

Laurie holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Political Science and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Western Ontario. She was called to the Bar in the Province of Ontario in 1996 and completed the Program for Leadership Development at Harvard Business School in 2013.

Laurie’s deep legal expertise, strong governance insights, and strategic leadership make her an invaluable member of Skyline’s executive team.
