[Guelph, Ontario – June 29, 2023]

R. Jason Ashdown, Co-Founder & Chief Sustainability Officer, Skyline Group of Companies, has been appointed Chair of the Board of the Federation of Rental-housing Providers of Ontario (FRPO).

As the voice of the Ontario rental housing industry, FRPO is the province’s leading advocate for strong and stable rental housing.  Representing more than 2,200 members who own or manage over 350,000 households in Ontario, FRPO promotes a healthy and balanced rental housing industry by ensuring the impact of legislation and regulatory changes serves the best interest of property owners, managers, and residents.

Jason was first elected to FRPO’s Board in 2009, serving most recently as Vice Chair. He will succeed outgoing Chair Allan Drewlo of Drewlo Holdings. As Chair, Jason will work with board members to inform and help direct policymakers with a long-term lens on improving the rental housing environment.

“FRPO congratulates Jason on his appointment to Chair of the Board,” said Tony Irwin, President & CEO, FRPO.

“As Chair, Jason’s extensive experience within the rental housing industry and with FRPO will be of great value as we continue our work to promote equitable solutions to the housing crisis in Ontario.”

Jason is a founding partner of Skyline Group of Companies, one of Canada’s major rental housing providers, now with 22,000+ multi-residential suites in 61 communities from coast to coast.

With more than 25 years of industry experience, Jason is a long-time national housing advocate. He recognizes that Canadian rental providers must lead by example and leverage their resources and influence to help find a solution to Canada’s worsening housing crisis.

“I am excited to take on this role and to work with policymakers to continue to drive positive change and address the challenges facing Ontario’s rental housing industry,” Jason said..

“The province continues to face a housing crisis, and as rental housing providers, we have an important role to play in finding a solution. It is our responsibility to manage responsibly while advocating for a strong and stable rental housing system.”

As Skyline’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Jason oversees the corporate strategy and implementation of Skyline’s sustainability and social responsibility efforts. His efforts and direction have, in part, helped grow Skyline into an award-winning $8.2+ billion real estate and clean energy enterprise with 1,000+ staff across eight provinces, with the highest concentration of staff located in Ontario.

Jason is also Chair of United Way Guelph-Wellington-Dufferin’s Home for Good Campaign, which aims to raise $5 million to reduce homelessness in Skyline’s hometown of Guelph, Ontario. Skyline donated land and development services valued at over $1.7M to help build a 32-unit Permanent Supportive Housing property in Guelph. This development broke ground in September 2022, with Jason representing Skyline and its donation of land, time, and expertise toward bringing the development to fruition.

Jason is a past board member of Shelldale Family Gateway, a community organization in Guelph, where he provided advisory services to help hundreds of local children and families. He regularly sees opportunities for Skyline to leverage its resources to enrich the communities where it does business, and spearheads initiatives such as investing $1.1 million into the Grove Community Hub in Fergus, Ontario, which provides mentoring and mental health support services for thousands of youths and families.
